Variation in Iron Ore Sinter Mineralogy with Changes in Basicity

The target basicity of iron ore sinter is set by blast furnace slag composition requirements, and therefore varies with the proportion acid burden such as lump pellets. Increasing will increase basicity. mineralogy produced a range between 1.0 3.0 was analysed using optical point counting under reflected light microscopy. Sinter from BlueScope Steel’s industrial strand over 30-year period, during which time wide fines blends were utilised several significant process modifications made. These data compared sinters in pilot-scale pot, laboratory-scale milli-pot, small-scale analogues. all scales followed predictable trend basicity, generally following diagram proposed Bagnall. At 1.0, high temperatures required to produce adequate strength, resulting bonding phases dominated magnetite glass. 2.0 decreased sintering temperature changed majority hematite SFCA. Further increases further increased SFCA dicalcium silicate content.
